Rainbow moon

The feint rainbow effect around the near full moon this evening gave the moon an appearance similar to the Helix Nebula. Well I thought so anyway.

Rainbow Moon

Not a particularly good shot I'll grant you, though this is what the Moon looked like just now when I took Geoff out for his evening constitutional; ringed in a rainbow, it reminded me of the Helix Nebula, the 'Eye of Creation'. Very nice.

August full moon

A messy moon, representing a messed up evening. I was hoping to get out and see some bands at a local venue, and then have my full moon fire afterwards, though the fates had other plans...as they often do.  Still, it was a nice evening for a fire, which was some solace.

Full Moon

There was no moon to be seen this evening, continuous grey blanketed the sky. It was dry though (to start with), so I constructed a brick shield around half the fire pit and kindled a fire. From the get go the fire was lively tonight, swirling gusts sent the flames licking in all directions, and periodically caused embers to erupt and take flight. It's a rare treat to enjoy a fire in the snow, so I made the most of it.  And, even though I couldn't see the moon, I celebrated its travels through the skies.

Last full Moon of the year

Sitting by the roaring fire, which is taking the chill of the air nicely, bathed in that most wonderful of lights, moonlight, I feel connected. Connected to the movements of the heavens, to the seasons, to nature, to time, and connected through time to those endless ancestral generations of ours, to whom sitting round a fire was natural, a fundamental part of their lives.  I love that timelessness, looking up at the same moon, it makes me feel human in a world increasingly plastic and devoid of humanity. Initially, and for the most part, the skies remained clear for the last full Moon of the year, the Cold Moon, a Super Moon, and her majesty was clearly seen, later though, as the evening passed, the clouds gathered to obscure the sky. Winter's certainly here, step away from the fire side and you know it. It's hard to beat nights like this; crisp air, clear skies, glowing moon, ritual, music (Archive, Cary Grace, Stones from the Sky, and John Martyn), fire, and some Calvados to loosen the gears, apples seemed seasonally appropriate.

Harvest Moon

The Harvest Moon was beautiful this evening. Harvest Moon is the name given to the full moon closest to the Autumn Equinox, tonight was the first time Harvest Moon fell in October since 2009. It was a good night for a full moon fire, we were blessed with a clear sky to show off the moon in all her glory.  I over did the fire a few times, possibly on account of me consuming a few to many shots of brown liquor on an empty stomach before I started. The fire pit area, nestled amongst the trees as it is was at times fully illuminated and I was pushed to the edge by the heat of my own stupidity. I slouched, blunted, along the fire side bench staring up at the full moon through our Hazel tree as shadows cast by the fire danced and flicked around me. Listening to Cary Grace's 'Projections' my alcohol muddled mind drifted up through the branches with the smoke rising from the fire. Projections is a fine album of a proggy psyche flavour, it's very atmospheric, and suited my melancholic mood well. It has been a mournful month since the last full moon, a full moon which was met with relief and thanks, though which sadly heralded a period heartache and upset. In fact, for the most part, the whole of September was a pile of shite.

First moon

First full moon of the year, therefore, first full moon fire of the year. I didn't think I'd get to have one tonight, the weather being as grim as it was, rain and sleet lashing down all day. Then with nightfall came clearing skies and by about 2030 the moon shone brightly in clear rich blue sky, with only the occasional loose cloud floating by. Still bloody cold, mind! So I whipped the trap off the fire pit and kindled a fire. It was slow going at first, some rain had got to my kindling, though with perseverance the fire grew, up to the point I made a rookie mistake and poked the young fire about, and then spent an age coaxing it back to life. Stupid move, and a move I should know better than to make.  Fire and light re-established I sat quietly under a radiant moon, I'd decided on no music tonight and so was left with my thoughts. The focal point of the fire is an aid to concentration, allowing to follow chains of thought more easily.  Of course, every now and again my drifting thoughts would be disturbed by the sounds of nocturnal activity, human and animal. I didn't mind though, I enjoy listening, imagining what's going on, it's nice to let your mind wander into the realms of imagination. Tonight's sounds were distant cars, barking dogs, the occasional owl and muffled conversations as people passed by.  It's nice just to listen to life going about its business. We used to have some Turkish neighbours who'd always on the phone talking loudly and excitedly, of course I could understand a word, but loved the rhythms of their conversations. I miss their evening calls. Tonight's moon and fire was a good start to the year.

Moon-shroom

I looked down only to find the moon had fallen from the stars and was now just lying there in the grass. I think it called to me, that's how I found it; I've always loved the moon, enjoyed moonlit walks and felt its pull on me. Down here it didn't look so big, that said, it was still quite beautiful. I'll check the sky tonight to see if it has returned to its celestial station.

Avon causeway

This evenings light gave the River Avon at the causeway a beautiful golden hue. I stopped and stared, transfixed by the sumptuous scene before me, it really was beautiful. We used to swim in this section of the river, the corners were deep, though for the most part the river in shallow here, only waist high. Then people got grumpy with us swimming there, so that was that. What's wrong with folk? We moan and whinge about the unimportant, whilst simultaneously ignoring the glaringly important. I think it comes from feeling powerless to effect the big stuff and a need to feel empowered. Still, lovely evening for a cycle.

The lonesome Pine

The Sun sinks slowly in the west cast an orange hue across the land as to the east a nearly full Moon rises in the clear blue sky over open forest, open all but for the occasional isolated tree. In this case the tree in question, is a lonesome Pine.
