Busy Graffiti

A new piece of graffiti in the underpass at Picket Post, well, new to me anyway, we've not been this way in a while. I like it, it's very busy. I like the palette, and it's flourishes. Very nice.

Graffiti

As much as I enjoy the big statement art graffiti pieces like those on the water tanks atop St Catherines' Hill, I do have a fondness for classic subway style graffiti. There's some nice pieces in a traditional style through the Picket Post underpass, I like the forms and colour employed, it's a shame they've got dirty so quickly. Dated '24 it must be fairly recently too, as we were only walking this way back in spring.

Subway graffiti

I like this. Simple though effective, both in form and colour palette. More please. It's surprising how stumbling across colourful graffiti, no matter the subject or size, can lift your spirits and put a smile on your face; it amazes me that people can object to dull grey, often neglected, concrete surfaces being brought to life with art.

Subway graffiti

The subway between Clayhill Heath and Whitely Wood sports a new piece of graffiti, or at least one I've not seen before. I was fairly certain I recognised the style as the same artist from the subway under the Christchurch to Lyndhurst road at Markway Hill, a white outline piece at the other end of the subway confirmed I was right. It's possible the same graffiti artist has created here for some years, the underlying and faded flower looks very similar in style to the white outlined piece.  Nice.

Flower figure

I like this. A nice, simple, though really effective piece of graffiti on the Markway side entrance to Markway Hill subway. A stylized figure created in flowers; of course it could be something else completely, a figure is simply my reaction. Great symmetry whatever. I don't know if it's the outline of an unfinished piece (there is a much larger word roughed out in the subway) or the finished article, either way, like it. More public art I say!

Graffiti by Camo

It's always nice discovering art unexpectedly. Out here in the forest too, there's an added something. A pleasantly jarring juxtaposition between strikingly coloured graffiti set in a modernist concrete underpass which stands isolated, a piece of urban furniture abandoned in nature.  I love things like that. Some of the fresh graffiti in the Lazy Bushes underpass. Nice.

Graffiti

I love a bit of stumbled upon art, and I love a bit of graffiti too, this morning I was able to combine the two. We stumbled upon a long piece of graffiti featuring stylised birds and flowing shapes in the underpass between Spaniards Hole and Whitley Wood. My first response was 'nice', my second was how much it reminded me of Barclay James Harvest's 1971 'Once Again' album cover. It's the lines and form, as well as to a lesser degree the colours used. It's a nice piece which brings life to the underpasses lifeless drab concrete, and there's the rub, for me.  There was clearly more graffiti by the same artist on the opposite wall which had been daubed over in white by the art police, it was still visible through the wash...and I thought, why do they bother? If it's not obscene or offensive, why not leave it, it brightens a dull concrete feature, and it enhances your walking experience...surely no one can be offended or angered by that.  More now than ever, the world needs art.

Psychedelic subway

Out of the forest, and into the psychedelic subway. I know some folk deplore graffiti, though I love it. Not tagging, or that shit, that's more to do with ego than art. But art like this which brightens and makes an interesting feature of what's just bland dank concrete, I'm all for. In fact, I must admit to being tempted myself to brighten up one of the forests many subways. Who can it offend? Who's bothered by it? Why? It put a smile on my face. I particularly like the cat, both in style and colouring.

Underground art

A nice piece of subway art found in the subway under the A31 near the Spreading Oak and Winding Stonard. Simple and effective colours used well in classic NYC style. I have no objection to art like this, it brightens a dull concrete subway and adds something unexpected to your walk.
