The graffiti says 1836, although the tree, a beech tree, appears to be too small at only 1.25m in circumference, about 110 years old, taking into account it's growing in close proximity to other more mature trees. The number style is consistent with other graffiti of the 1800's identified elsewhere in the forest. The tree is in close proximity to the site of Holm Hill cottage and several other nearby trees sport interesting graffiti.Monday 22 November 2010
