Brass monkeys

I thought it was cold yesterday morning, though I hadn't considered that that was at 0930 after the Sun had risen and taken the edge off, dawn this morning was so much colder. Dusted in frost the forest was quiet and still, little stirred; there were very few animals about, I imagined them hunkered down somewhere out of the worst of the chill; very few people about too, also probably avoiding the chill. Nice out though, worth the effort. A bracing walk was had; 13 miles of bracing walk in fact.

Burley Old

After 10 miles walking, another early start saw Geoff and I a mile out from the car shortly after 0800, just as the sun broke through the post dawn cloud, illuminating Burley Old. Again the forest had been ours alone to walk; and I ain't complaining.

Dawn walking

The introduction of Geoff into my life has radically altered my routines, I've now become the dawn treader, out walking over the dew covered common by 0630. Don't misunderstand me, I'm not moaning, it's nice to see the early hours of day and nature waking. Well, other being thoroughly moist with dew on my return, that is. As currently the common is furnished with above head height bracken, rose bay willow herb and grasses. An island of wild in a suburban setting, really, it quite a wild place.
