Bearded Tooth Fungus

A rare find on today's walk (or as described in some sources...very rare), a large specimen of Bearded Tooth Fungus (Hericium erinaceus). It's a big pumpkin size example, though sadly, it's well through its cycle, its colour has changed from brilliant white to salmon pink-ish, its long dangling teeth are beginning to wilt and drip amber droplets. Apparently they're edible when young, and something of a delicacy (I think someone had previously cut a small chunk off). I 'might' have taken a small piece myself had I found it earlier, though harvesting something so rare, isn't really my bag.  I'm happy just to have found it, to have seen something I don't remember seeing before.  The forest is good for that.
